Come and see the Canal du Midi on a Velo Loco tour before the 300 year old plantanes are cut down! Over 60,000 trees have been affected by disease
and will be cut down along the length of the canal during 2007. This will change the appearance of the canal du midi forever and cause disruption to barge traffic whilst the careful
felling takes place to prevent further spread of disease. The cause of the increasing numbers
of trees infected is the steadily increasing average temperature. Within 20 years, experts believe that there will be no plantanes living in the south of France.
Take the opportunity now to cycle along the canal towpath in the shade of these magnificent trees.
